The lower caliper bolt fell out and from what I can see, I think the bolt flipped up and got wedged between the caliper and the wheel. It must have initially hit with enough force to make a hole in the wheel then it just acted as a pizza cutter and cut a perfect ring around the wheel, then the wheel just split in two. This all happened really quick too. I was driving down highway 34 and everything seemed fine. Then I applied the brakes to slow down for a turn, and it started making all kinds of bad noises, so I started looking for a place to pull off. Just as I was pulling into a driveway, the wheel split. Lucky it didn't happen doing 60mph.
