Decided to change it up a little, I had an 89 Jeep Wrangler at one time and liked it but I like this one better. The ole RAM was never going to be worth any more so she is gone, we are going Jeepin! We have the 72 Chevy 3/4 ton and the 74 power wagon for now if I need a truck. It is 2003 model with 103K.

Thanks Dave, 4.0 six cylinder, 190hp, manual trans. It does seem to have been well taken care of and that will continue to be the case. Should be fun in the summer too, came with both the hard top and soft top.

Maybe some snow would not be so bad, but let's wait a little bit longer. Today was awesome even though we had 80mph winds. Got some work done on the power wagon.

Looks like fun, going to do any mods to it?

Doubt any mods for a while. I have the power wagon and the gtx to modify first. I do need some help from you jeep owners. I have been doing some reading on tires, this one came originally with Goodyear Wrangler MTR's. But then I read bad stuff and good on BFG all terrains too. Have read some bad stuff and some good. Seems rather squirrelly on the highway. I don't care about some road and tire noise just don't want to hear only that. What do you JEEP guys recommend? These are 245/75/16 and I would like to get some input on what works all around. Thanks for anything you can help me out with here! :hmm:

From everything that I have read chances of me getting stuck are slim so we will see who pulls who out. The Rubicon has a awesome 4WD features for playing around in off road situations.

Too late, it is already dirty. Still looking for advice on tires for this jeep if anyone has some to give. Honestly would like to have the most aggressive tread with not a bunch of road noise or something close to that. HELP! :willy:

I think agressive tread and road noise go hand in hand don't they?

Correct, The noise comes from the spacing between the "lugs" of the tires. The greater the spacing the greater the noise. That's why the Interco Super Swampers are some of the noisiest tires on pavement. The BFG mud terrain tires are the most aggressive tire I have found with a manageable amount of noise (meaning you can still hear the radio at highway speed). The problem with BFG's is that they use a softer rubber to achieve the reduction of noise. This means lower tread life.
The best "all-around" tire is the Interco Tornbird (personally I don't like the looks). They have minimal spacing on the road side tread but have HUGE lugs on the side of the tire for mud! You have to remember that Interco's are hand made so sometimes the amount of weights to put them in balance is surprising. An experienced tire guy will be able to balance them with minimal weights.

Except in the snow, right Pete.

My first recommendation would be two sets of tires and rims. One set for daily use and one set for Mudding. Because one of the big problems with a pure mud tire is lack of siping which allows the tire to grip in snow and ice (which you will drive on a hellava lot more here in Nebraska). If you can't afford the two sets, I would go with an aggressive All-terrain tire. BFG A/T's are a great all around longer lasting tire from my experience (I've had two sets). I had a set of Coopers about 15 years ago they were a good tire. I had a horrible set of off brand tires from Nebraska Tire, so bad that I refuse to do business with them ever again. (It's a long story, If you would like to hear it call me.) Just looking around a little here are a few others I would consider if it were me.

Cooper Discoverer Radial STT TEK3
Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac
General Grabber AT2 Studdable

I've been thinking about this thread and I think I found the solution to your problem 69GTX. Put this on your Jeep and you don't have to worry about how aggressive the tread is. :Thumb:

Thanks for all your input on tire selection guys! I have decided to go with the Goodyear Duratrac and I elected not to go with 10 ply cause they ride like tractor tires and I will never have that kind of a load. I did a lot of research too and reading tire forums, everyone for the most part seemed very satisfied with this particular brand of tire. I am awaiting their arrival to show up and then were gettin them on. THANKS AGAIN, and yea the winch is a great idea but not practical after you go to the courthouse and buy a set of tires. First things, first! :drivin:
