As some of you already know, I have a 1966 Vintage HEMI for sale. I got this HEMI with my 71 Cuda when I bought it. The engine looks incredible and is running flawlessly as I am driving the Cuda right now with this engine until I sell it. I intend on selling this motor so that I can put in the 472 HEMI I have sitting in my garage. I've had numerous interested parties, but just today I had a set-back.
I have been digging into the history of this engine in order to get as much information about it as possible. The engine is definitely date coded 1966 (32866). I have casting numbers for the block and the intake. The engine certainly appears to be fresh, but I discovered today that the documentation I received from the guy who sold me the car was not for this engine. I had several discussions with the supposed builder and found out that they had never worked on a 1966 HEMI. I called the original owner of the car. He claims that he must've given me the wrong paperwork. He is going to try and procure the real documents, but -- due to his stuttering and him-hawing around today on the phone -- I have this horrid feeling that he doesn't have them.
So, now I realize there are some unknowns about this engine. I can't sell it for as much as I have been told it's worth. The engine is still obviously great, but it will be hard to sell on eBay or other online venues if I don't have documentation or the Buyer can't come and see it in person. I figure my best bet is to sell it to someone locally who can come and see the engine for what it is. If I offered it up at nearly half of what I've been told it's worth ($10k), would there be anyone on this forum interested? I'd rather it go to one of the good fellas from this group than anyone else.
