I have always wondered this... why does everyone say its so better to have highway miles on your car instead of in town miles if the car is high mileage.
100k miles seems like a 100k miles to me. Any insight?

starts and stops in the City means more braking, more shifting and idle time in gear, more turning. Hwy miles accumulate faster so you'll have lots fewer running hours for 100k Hwy miles vs mostly City miles.

Don't forget most people take short trips in town, which dosen't allow the engine to achive full operating temp. This is considered severe duty if you check your owners manual.

high miles just means its been used correctly ie the repair maintenance has been done correctly or because stuff broke either way you know its made it that far and honestly mileage means nothing to me just my .02
